The "Q-Chip" name is a play on words: A Q-ship is a car with bone-stock appearance that performs at a much higher level. A "wolf in sheep's clothing," so to speak. A Q-Chip from Autotech will give your VW a new lease on life, a boost in performance so well integrated with your VW, you'll soon forget what it's like to drive without it. The Ignition Map The Autotech Q-Chip takes advantage of available 91 Octane gasoline and incorporates a new, more aggressive, ignition map for your car. This is what produces most of the power gains in the low to middle rpm ranges and the "seat of the pants" improvement. Our ignition map modifications are not merely limited to full throttle conditions. Changes are made in the maps affecting both full and part throttle situations. Part throttle ignition mods are, in fact, the changes most responsible for engine responsiveness during most driving conditions. Why didn't the factory do this to begin with? Mainly because any factory must design their cars to accommodate the full range of available fuels. More recently, as cars become "world spec," using the same cars all over the world means an even greater range of fuel quality. As a performance tuner, we can design our Q-Chip with a specific fuel quality in mind. This allows us to run more aggressively towards the performance ideal. The Fuel Map Peak horsepower depends greatly on properly administered amounts of fuel. We design each Q-Chip to provide enough fuel to produce maximum power, yet it will only provide the extra fuel when conditions find it necessary. Extra fuel at inopportune times not only reduces power, but also reduces mileage and increases emissions. All Autotech Q-Chips are designed with EPA-acceptable levels of emissions in mind, and are 50 State Legal, including the OBD-II models from 1996-98 (an Autotech First!). A4 2.0L Motronic M5.9 / ME7.5
The Q-Chip for the A4 2.0L cars provides good gains in torque and horsepower at all rpm. The car's ability to run to the new, higher 6900 rpm redline is quickened, and the motor becomes much more responsive. Gains of at least 5 horsepower are seen from 4000rpm to 6000rpm. Note: In 1998-2000 2.0L New Beetle, Jetta 4, and Golf 4 models, U.S.-spec VW's use an updated version of Bosch Motronic called M5.9. This system is based upon an improved CPU and a 2MB flash E-PROM. From 2001 onwards, 2.0L cars have been further upgraded to ME7.5 and throttle-by-wire with an 8MB E-PROM. Both of these offer a much improved and more accurate system than the "old days" of the early 1990's, and a slightly more complicated process is required to modify them properly. We will properly desolder, with hot air, the original Chip from your ECU. Then, we install a special socket that will hold your new Q-Chip. We will send you back the modified ECU with the Q-Chip already installed along with your stock chip (2001> models will get a stock chip in a plug-in module). Mk4 VR6 Motronic ME7
The VR6 engine in the A4 Chassis Golf and Jetta has been updated from the A3 version in several ways, the most important of which is the conversion to throttle-by-wire using Motronic ME7 engine management. Since the new car's introduction, however, many owners have complaned about the poor drivability when these new cars are driven hard, especially during upshifts from first to second gear and second to third gear under hard acceleration: a dramatic "lag" occurs upon throttle application as if the engine is trying to catch up to your right foot's input, but can't. This is not the fault of the new Motronic system, but of how it's tuned. This is one particular place where the Q-Chip shines: once it's installed in your VR6, the lag is almost completely gone and the car pulls harder than you thought possible! That's just one great aspect of this upgrade. In fact, power gains are felt virtually everywhere in the rpm range. Dynojet® test results (available online) show an average gain over stock between 5000rpm and 6600rpm of 12.5 wheel horsepower! This makes the Q-Chip is an absolute MUST for your new VR6. You'll wonder how you ever got along without it. Once we receive your ECU, we will properly desolder, with hot air, the original chip. Then, in its place, we install a special socket module that contains your new Q-Chip. We will send you back the modified ECU with the Q-Chip already installed...ready to run! In addition, we will send you a second plug-in module with the original program on it. This will allow you to revert back to the stock program, if desired, by simply unplugging the Q-Chip Module and replacing it with the stock-programmed version.

Mk4 1.8T Motronic ME7 Stage 1 The AUTOTECH Stage 1 System is our in-house designed Q-Chip, professionally installed in your car's ECU by AUTOTECH. The Q-Chip optimizes fuel, timing, and boost maps for performance-oriented driving when using the stock turbocharger and premium 92 octane fuel. Boost pressure is set to reach 1.0-1.1 bar maximum, up from 0.7 bar. Peak horsepower on pre-2001 cars is raised from the stock 150 to 185 (Beetle) or 192 (G/J). 2001 and later cars, in both 150hp and 180hp stock form, have revised turbos and further updated management, and can be Q-Chipped for still more power while maintaining absolute reliability. Our own 2001 (AWW-150hp) GTi has gone from 131 hp at the wheels in stock form to a healthy 186, simply by installing a Q-Chip, a K&N filter, and bolting on our awesome 2.5 inch exhaust! That's an easy 55 horsepower gain with bolt on parts! The result is 204hp on both 150 and 180 hp models. Torque levels are dramatically improved and translate into sheer kick-in-the-pants driving pleasure! You will be amazed at how this single change can release your car's hidden potential. Every 1.8T should have this modification! We will need your car's ECU (electronic control unit) to perform the Q-Chip installation. Stage 2
The AUTOTECH Stage 2 System is centered around a new Factory-built K04 Sport turbocharger from 3K-Warner (formerly KKK). We use the factory built K04, not a converted K03 as is sometimes used by other tuners. The K04 is a direct bolt-in for the stock K03, requiring no modifications to the manifolds, catalytic convertor, or plumbing. As with the Stage 1, our in-house designed Q-Chip is installed in your car's ECU. This time, however, it is optimized for the larger turbocharger. Beetles go from 150 to 215hp <dyno>, while Golf/Jetta models reach 225hp. We will need your car's ECU (electronic control unit) for 24 hours to perform the Q-Chip installation. Please call ahead, with ECU number in hand, to get an authorization number for this process. Your salesman will guide you when you call. Each Stage 2 System includes: Q-Chip performance software installed in your ECU, K04 Sport Turbocharger, and a set of 4 spark plugs designed for high boost pressure applications.
