The efficiency and thus the maximum power and torque potential of any engine is determined by how much air-fuel mixture is available to the cylinders. On many cars this is restricted by the camshaft design or induction system. The solution to real performance is not just a hotter camshaft or a bigger intake system, but larger valves and modified porting. Autotech's solution is the Zylinderkopf. In German it means "Cylinderhead", but here at Autotech it means SportTuned performance. Performance typical of the flat out German heritage of your watercooled VW.

Our philosophy of using the factory valves wherever possible means you will never be stuck out in the cold if a replacement should ever be needed. Your local VW Dealer will likely have replacement valves in stock. By using the high quality OEM replacement valves, we incorporate the proper valve stem lengths. Valves that many companies sell were originally designed with a longer valve stem for reground cams, and this can cause problems when trying to change camshafts in the future. Using factory length valves also means you can bolt in a standard factory cam without having the head disassembled and the valve tips ground!

Many hours of development and testing were spent on the latest head-flow equipment to achieve the optimum in airflow dynamics. All ports and chambers are matched and polished to a near-perfect configuration. Port sizes are designed to achieve a balance between maximum air flow (for top-end power) and increased air velocity at lower engine speeds in order to maintain a flat torque curve.
