Autotech 240mm Lightweight Aluminum Flywheels for 02M 6-Speed

Autotech's CNC machined 240mm Aluminum Flywheels are crafted from 6061 aluminum blanks. If you're looking for an extra edge at the track, or constantly pushing the limits of your car's abilities, then you should think about stepping up to our Aluminum Flywheel. Our Aluminum Flywheels are different from the competition because they are NOT simply built to be the lightest flywheels on the planet, sacrificing all for bragging rights to the lightest VW flywheel made… Some of the competition's ultra lightweight aluminum flywheels can actually be too light. There are a few downsides to this, most notably: making it difficult to get the car rolling (no inertia!) from a standstill.

We optimized the design to benefit from added inertial drop without throwing the drivability out the window at the same time, a common shortcoming of many other aluminum flywheels. Our 240mm Aluminum Flywheels weigh just over 9 lbs. with the starter ring gear installed. The friction surface is a high quality, alloy steel that is treated with a liquid nitriding process called Melonite®. The Melonite® process minimizes distortion and keeps dimensional changes to a minimum, while drastically increasing fatigue strength. As a result, the friction ring exhibits exceptional long-term resistance to wear, seizure, scuffing, adhesion and fatigue.

Our 240mm Aluminum Flywheels includes new starter ring gear, flywheel & pressure plate bolts. It is designed to work and has been extensively tested with SACHS stock & competition pressure plates and discs.

Autotech 228mm Lightweight Aluminum Flywheels for 02A/02J 5-Speed

Autotech Aluminum Flywheels are lighter than our steel versions, capitalizing on the inherent weight savings of the aluminum. We optimized the design to benefit from added inertial drop without throwing the drivability out the window at the same time, a common shortcoming of many other aluminum flywheels. Our 228mm Aluminum Flywheels weigh 8.25 lbs with a starter ring mounted. The friction surface is high a quality, alloy steel that is treated with a liquid nitriding process called Melonite®. As a result, the friction ring exhibits exceptional long-term resistance to wear, seizure, scuffing, adhesion and fatigue.

Autotech's G60 & 12V VR6 flywheel kits are designed to re-use the original starter ring gear (just transfer it over). Autotech's Aluminum Flywheels feature a red anodized finish and include new dowel pins, pressure plate bolts and flywheel bolts. Our 1.8T flywheel kit comes with a new starter ring gear, as the original one cannot be transferred.

VW's G60, 12V VR6, and Mk4 1.8T flywheels are notoriously heavy and can easily stand to shed a few pounds. Autotech offers the perfect solution: Lightweight Steel Billet Flywheels.

The result? A motor that revs to redline much faster!

Our CNC machined 228mm lightweight flywheels are beautifully crafted from steel blanks for the utmost in strength and weight savings. Our G60, 12V VR6 & 1.8T flywheels weigh less than 10 pounds!

Unlike some competitor's units, Autotech's lightweight flywheels are not 'reconditioned' stock cast flywheels.

Autotech's G60 & 12V VR6 flywheel kits are designed to retain the original starter ring gear (just transfer it over) and are supplied with new dowel pins, pressure plate bolts and flywheel bolts.

The stock clutch in a 1.8T is 220mm diameter and uses a dual-mass flywheel system. Our 228mm flywheel for the 1.8T requires that you upgrade the clutch to a stronger 228mm type. The 1.8T flywheel kit also comes with a new starter ring gear, as the original one cannot be transferred. We also sell the starter ring gear separately.
