0.75 and 0.80 5th Gear Conversion Kits for 020 Transmissions
Autotech has found that the 0.75 ratio is the most suitable for people with 1983
and later close ratio transmissions found in 8V GTI's, GLI's, and many Wolfsburg
Edition cars. This gear kit is for those who wish to lower the engine rpm during
highway driving. This 5th gear provides better fuel economy and quieter operation
at turnpike or freeway cruising speeds. Each kit is complete with original Factory
gears, special "must replace" bolt, thrust washer, new circlip, end cover gasket,
special Autotech shift fork tool, and instructions. Fits 020 8V transmissions only.
Autotech offers a taller fifth gear conversion for 16V & 2.0L Mk3 ABA models as well. The
0.80 ratio gears are Factory gears, and a direct replacement for the stock 0.91
gears. This yields a 12% drop in rpms for any given speed, great for highway
cruising! Comes with new gears, special bolt, thrust washer, end cover gasket,
Autotech shift fork tool, and instructions. Fits 16V transmissions and 2.0L 8V as well.
Note: the transmission does not have to be removed from the
vehicle to install these 5th gear conversions. Access to the 5th gears and
the end cap of the transmission is gained via the left fenderwell. The 5th gear
conversion can usually be performed in about 3 to 4 hours for a "first-timer."

0.72 5th Gear for 02A/02J Transmissions
For the 02A/02J gearboxes found in G60, Mk3 VR6 and all Mk4 models, we offer a
tall 0.72 ratio gear pair. Again, these are Factory gears, assuring high quality.
The stock fifth gear ratio in a VR6 or G60 is usually 0.84, so this taller pair drops
a healthy 14% off your rpm for the same speed. Comes with two new Factory gears.

1.43 Sport 3rd Gear for B5 Passat
We have found that most 1998 Passat 5-speeds come stock with a 3rd gear that
is less than ideal ratio-wise. The rev-drop between 2nd and 3rd gears is
drastically larger than any other shift in the box. This new factory 3rd gear pair
reduces the rev-drop to better keep the car in the powerband all the way through
the gears. Stock 3rd gear ratio is 1.300, new sport ratio is 1.429. The rev-drop
from 2nd to 3rd goes from 2703 rpm with the stock gear to only 2277 rpm at a 7000
rpm shift. Fits 1998-2000 Passat 1.8T and V6 using 5-speed transmissions with codes
DHW. DVX, DVZ, or DHY.
