Adjustable Cam Gears
8V Adjustable Cam Gear - Mk1/Mk2/Mk3 to 1999

Autotech's newest adjustable cam gear is CNC-crafted entirely
from both 6061 & 7075-T6 aluminum. The main portion
including the teeth is hard-anodized for durability. The
inner hub is anodized red. All factory timing marks are
on the gear, to ensure simple, accurate installation. All
marks are laser engraved. The gear is held firmly in your
desired setting with ARP® stainless flange-head screws.
The gear is marked for 10 degrees advance or retard of the
camshaft timing. You can correctly "zero-in" (degree) your camshaft to the
recommended setting with ease. In general, advancing the cam timing
increases low-end torque and improves throttle response. Retarding
the camshaft timing will generally shift the powerband upward,
increasing top-end power. This is also good when installing a resurfaced head,
because the gear can be used to correct for timing loss (retardation) caused by
the cam being closer to the crankshaft. This gear will allow you to adjust for the
peak performance and power range desired. Weighs a miniscule 11 ounces. Fits 1.6L -
2.0L 8V gas engines in Mk1, Mk2, and Mk3 vehicles. Made in USA. Add our alloy intermediate shaft pulley below!

Peg-Vernier Adjustable Timing Gears for 1999.5-2005 Mk 4 1.8T & 2.0L

Our new peg-vernier adjustment cam timing gears consist of a hard-anodized
6061-T6 aluminum gear and an alloy steel hub and cover plate. The proven vernier
design allows for infinite incremental timing adjustment. It is possible to
adjust the timing in 1.5° increments simply by aligning the holes in both the
hub and sprocket at the desired position. There is no limit to the adjustment. A
tool steel lockpin secures your timing position, held in place by the steel cover
plate. Once set, this gear will not slip during use. This type of gear is great for
"degreeing" your camshaft to exact timing specs with no danger of slippage once
assembled. Made in the UK.

Timing Belts - Better Safe than Sorry
How many miles are on your motor's timing belt? Not sure? If so,
you're gambling with very high stakes, indeed. If the belt breaks while
you're on the gas, there's a good chance of bending many, if not all of the intake
valves in the motor
big bucks! To err on the side of caution, we
recommend changing the timing belt every 45,000 miles, rather than the factory
recommended 60,000 miles. Frankly, we've seen many cars bust the belt well
before the 60,000 mile mark.
This rule should be followed on all multi-valve (4 or 5) VW motors, just to be
safe. In fact, it's wise to use this shorter interval on all VW "interference"
engines, those with 10:1 or higher compression, or even lower compression
motors with high-lift camshafts. For belt applications
