With the exception of the early Mk1 chassis catalytic convertors, the factory installed cats are quite good performers.  The large, monolith style ceramic cores used by VW flow about as well as ceramic cats can be expected to flow.  Beware of some aftermarket catalytic convertors, for they may actually restrict flow when compared to stock!

Rabbit/Scirocco/Jetta 1 Cat
2 inch core flows better than stock. Provides an approximate 2 HP gain. Provision for oxygen sensor in cat allows for use in 1988-89 Cabriolet models.

Golf 2/Jetta 2 60x50 Cat
Replaces OEM No. 165.131.701C. 60mm 3-hole inlet with 50mm o.d. outlet. Used on: Jetta GLI 8V, 1985-87 (RD eng); Jetta 2 8V, 1987-92 (PF engine only); and Jetta 16V 2.0, 1990-92. Can be used when putting an Autotech Tri-Y Header on any Golf or Jetta with a 50mm inlet exhaust, such as 10.297.210K (Golf) or 10.297.212K (Jetta).

Replaces OEM No. 165.131.701E. 60mm 3-hole inlet with 55mm o.d. outlet. Used on: Jetta 16V, 1987-89; Golf 16V, 1987-92; and Golf 8V, 1988-92 (PF and California RV eng).
