Sport Oil Pans
SportTuned Baffled Steel Oil Pan

A proper sport suspension on your VW can generate enough lateral acceleration to make the stock oil pick-up starve for
oil in hard cornering, and an engine without oil doesn't last long. The SportTuned Oil Pan features "trap door"
baffles to trap the oil in the area immediately around the oil pick-up, insuring proper oiling at all times. In
addition, the pan incorporates a windage tray with adjustable oil scrapers to minimize parasitic horsepower loss from
oil spun by the crankshaft. Our SportTuned Oil Pan is based on an OEM oil pan, assuring a proper fit. Beware of
imitations using substandard materials and inaccurate stamping dies: they are difficult to install and not as durable.
Our Pan's chromate plating is designed to dissipate heat, rather than hold it in like painted or chromed pans. Supplied
with gasket and magnetic plug. Not for VR6 engines.

Sport Windage Tray

This is the same windage tray as used with our Aluminum Oil Pan listed below. Its unique rubber seal eliminates the need
for the traditional fiber gasket. A windage tray's purpose is to reduce parasitic horsepower loss caused by engine
oil being "spun" by the crankshaft counterweights. This tray can provide new-found power during aggressive driving!
Fits all 4-cylinder models. Supplied with the required longer pan bolts. Not for VR6 engines.

Severe Duty Oil Pumps
If you're converting a 1.8L engine to 2.0L, or even if you're not, you may want to consider using an oil pump from a 2.0L
engine as an upgrade. The 2.0L pumps(versions for both 8V & 16V) use the largest 36mm wide gears for maximum oil
flow, plus their drive shafts are factory clearanced for the large stroke crankshafts used in a 2.0L.
For 8V Hydraulic Lifter Engines

This is a factory pump for 8V engines with the largest 36mm wide gears, providing maximum volume. Fits 1.8-2.0L 8V
engines. Shaft is clearanced for 2.0L stroke cranks. Pickup tube is not included, just re-use your original.

For 16V Hydraulic Lifter Engines

This is the factory pump for 16V engines that uses the largest 36mm wide gears, providing maximum volume. Fits
1.8-2.0L 16V engines. Obviously, the shaft is already factory clearanced for 2.0L stroke cranks, so it makes a great upgrade
when you're converting your 1.8L to a 2.0L.

Oil Controller

The oil you find in your car's air box is caused by high engine pressures and spray off of the camshaft. This is
injected into the breather pick-up hole which vents directly to the airbox. This special glass-reinforced nylon Oil
Controller rests atop the camshaft underneath the cam cover. It reduces camshaft spray and virtually eliminates
oil-soaked air filters and intake systems. Factory installed in all hydraulic lifter
engines. Fits all 1.6L, 1.7L, and 1.8L 8V engines.

Engine Oil
LUBROMOLY VOLLSYNTHESE 5W40 Fully Synthetic Oil

VOLLSYNTHESE is a fully synthetic, energy conserving oil. According to API sequence VI, it will save up to 2% in
fuel. It exceeds current API-SH requirements and has even been given official approval by Volkswagen
[VW-Norm 500.00 and 505.00(11/92)], as well as BMW and Porsche. VOLLSYNTHESE provides optimal
wear protection, and is able to withstand the high temperatures that a high performance engine can create. Its ability
to provide immediate lubrication when cold starting reduces wear and makes it an excellent all season oil. Autotech sells
VOLLSYNTHESE in 1 liter and 5 liter bottles. Made in Germany. Note: 4-cyl VW's hold 4.5 litres including the filter. VR6
engines hold 6 litres.

Oil Pressure Problem?
If the oil pressure warning alerts you by fluttering on and off when your car's fully warm and at idle, there's a good
chance it's one of two common maladies: a bad oil pressure switch or a worn oil pump. The factory
repair manual explains how to check the switches. After verifying switch function, checking your oil pressure (when
fully warm) with a mechanical pressure gauge is a good idea. A good rule of thumb is that the engine should have a
minimum of about 10 psi of oil pressure for every 1000 rpm of engine speed. Any lower, and you should start looking
for excessively worn parts. |
