1.43 SPORT 3rd GEAR PAIR, 012 GEARBOX
We have found that most 1998 Passat 5-speeds come stock with a 3rd gear that is less than ideal ratio-wise. The rev-drop between 2nd and 3rd gears is drastically larger than any other shift in the box. This new factory 3rd gear pair reduces the rev-drop to better keep the car in the powerband all the way through the gears. Stock 3rd gear ratio is 1.300, new sport ratio is 1.429. The rev-drop from 2nd to 3rd goes from 2703 rpm with the stock gear to only 2277 rpm at a 7000 rpm shift. Fits 1998-2000 Passat 1.8T and V6 using 5-speed transmissions with codes DHW. DVX, DVZ, or DHY.
