Quaife FAQ’s
General Product Questions

What sort of gear lube should I use ?

For QUAIFE ATB Differentials:
When running a QUAIFE ATB Differential in a standard transaxle gearbox, we recommend that you use whatever your vehicle's manufacturer recommends. The QUAIFE ATB Differential does not require any special lubricants. ©

When running QUAIFE gearbox internals and a QUAIFE ATB differential – we recommend Silkolene SYN5 75W90.

For a QUAIFE ATB differential, running in a rear axle – use a hypoid 90 or 75W90, as above.

For those applications that will accept a GL5 or SAE75W90 gear oil, we recommend and sell Silkolene SYN5 75W90 gear oil. We use Silkolene in all our own QUAIFE racing transmissions.

What sort of gear lube should I use with my Quaife Gearbox or Gearkit?

We recommend and sell Silkolene SYN5 75W90 gear oil. It is GL4 and GL5 compatible and is suitable for both synchromesh and dog-engagement transmissions. We use Silkolene in all our own QUAIFE racing transmissions.

What is the torque bias ratio of the Quaife differential?

QUAIFE does not specify bias ratio details and generally, does not use the term. The QUAIFE ATB differential is an all helical gear design. The angle and tooth form of the helix used, the number of pinions used, and many other factors (including the particular car fitted) all contribute to how the differential behaves and biases drive torque. Each QUAIFE differential application is designed to offer the best compromise between performance and durability.

What kind of horsepower can the Quaife differential handle?

The QUAIFE differential is engineered to take just about as much horsepower as you can throw at it. In almost any given transmission or rear axle, the QUAIFE ATB Differential will not be the limiting factor. If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to contact us.

What sort of maintenance is required when using a Quaife differential?

There is no additional maintenance required when using the QUAIFE differential. You can simply "forget" about it, and let it do its magic!

Are there any special parts needed to install a Quaife differential?

There are no special parts required to install a QUAIFE differential, beyond what may normally be needed to install a stock unit. The basic parts needed will be: differential bearings, transmission or rear end gaskets, and possibly some shims if required.
Application-Specific Product Questions

Will the B16 differential (60.309.160) work in a B18C transmission?

The B16 and the B18 differentials are very similar. One of the main differences is that the B18 differential has a slightly larger ring gear flange diameter and bolt PCD. If you want to use a B16 differential in a B18 gearbox, you will need to bring over the ring gear (and pinion shaft) from the B16. Expert technicians are recommended for swaps of this type.

I don't see an application listed for my vehicle, what can I do?
Whether you are looking for an ATB Differential, close ratio gearkit, quick steering rack, or all of the above, we specialize in making limited productions on a custom basis. With many differential production runs of only 30 units, and gearkit productions of as few as 10 kits, Autotech  can provide small companies and race teams with custom made driveline products built to their own, unique requirements. If you are an individual looking for one part, the first thing to do is to contact Autotech ! You may not be the only one looking. Many new applications have begun with a single phone call. After that, it would be a good idea to seek out fellow enthusiast owners that share an interest in your same vehicle. You may be able to gather enough people together to get a small production started.
Give us a call, you got nothing to lose . . . and performance to gain!

Miscellaneous

How do I become a Quaife dealer?

Becoming a dealer is very simple. Just give us a call or drop us an e-mail, and we will send out a dealer application to you. In most cases, we will get back to you within 48hrs to let you know is your application has been accepted.

What can I do to get Quaife to make a custom differential for me?

Autotech  is always open to doing special batch runs of differentials, gear kits, or many other driveline components. This is one of our specialties. Although a single, custom QUAIFE ATB differential could be made, it is often cost-prohibitive. A typical, small batch run of differentials is 30-50 units, and a batch run of gear kits is between 10 and 25 sets.

What do I do if I think I have a problem with my Quaife differential?

The first thing to do would be to call or e-mail us before sending it back to us. One of our trained technicians will gladly help you assess what has happened. If at that point, if it is deemed necessary, just send us the differential, less interfacing parts and bearings. You will need an authorization before returning any items for inspection, service, or repair. We will evaluate your QUAIFE differential, and advise you of our findings.

What do I do if I my Quaife gearkit or gearbox needs service or repair?

If you suspect a problem with your gearkit or gearbox, you would follow the same protocol as above. Just give us a call, or drop us an e-mail, to let us know what is going on, before you send it back to us. You will need an authorization before returning any items for inspection, service, or repair. We will try and determine the cause of the problem as quickly as possible, repair it, and get you back on the track.
